Youth Outpatient Services
Sadly, substance abuse and mental health disorders are not only adult problems. Adolescents are increasingly vulnerable to these concerns. Maryville Integrated Care offers our youth outpatient program specifically designed for clients between 11 and 17 years old.
Understanding the Teenage Conundrum
Adolescence is all about physical and emotional change. Bodies grow rapidly and friendships come and go, all while teens are still trying to figure out their place in the world. These unique factors can make it risky to experiment with drugs and alcohol.
- Growing pains: Teenage brains and bodies are in a state of flux. Drug exposure can interrupt physical and mental growth.
- Lower tolerance levels: Since they are smaller than fully grown adults, teenagers generally have a lower tolerance to drugs and alcohol, so it’s easier for them to become dependent.
- Brain changes: Adolescents’ brains are still developing, especially the areas associated with decision-making, judgment and learning. Substance abuse can affect these regions, leading teenagers to “learn” to depend on alcohol or drugs.

Why Maryville’s Youth Services Stand Out
Teenagers grappling with addiction are not merely smaller versions of adults with similar issues; they have unique psychological and emotional factors to account for.
Historically, treatment programs designed specifically for teens have been rare. Maryville’s approach is different.
- Tailored treatment: We focus on adolescents’ developmental and emotional differences, which equals more effective therapy.
- Broad age spectrum: Our team serves clients from 11 to 17 years old, ensuring adolescents receive appropriate care at different stages.
- Accessible services: Our programming is easily accessible through telehealth and in-person outpatient programs located in Turnersville and Vineland.
- Co-occurring disorders: Recognizing the relationship between substance abuse and mental health, our therapists treat teenagers who may also need help dealing with a mental health disorder.
- Logistical ease: We offer transportation coordination to help our young clients access care.
