Recovery for Life Virtual Gala
On Friday, March 12th, Maryville held its Recovery for Life Virtual Gala. Presented by the Forman Family Foundation, the event included music, a silent auction, a story of transformation told by a Maryville alumnus, and our esteemed guest speaker, Chef Michael Solomonov of Philadelphia’s Zahav. Chef Mike is an award-winning chef, restaurateur, and author.
Chef Mike shared with us his personal story of addiction, recovery, and resilience. Steps away from losing all he had built to a life ruled by addiction, he ultimately found himself at a crossroads. With the help and support of those closest to him, Chef Mike chose to confront his greatest challenges, and now celebrates more than 12 years in recovery. Today he is co-owner of eight restaurants and the author of three cookbooks as well as the recipient of five James Beard awards, including 2016 “Book of the Year” for his and Steve Cook’s bestseller Zahav: A World of Israeli Cooking, as well as 2017 “Outstanding Chef” and 2019 “Outstanding Restaurant” for Zahav. Food & Wine magazine recognized Zahav as one of the 2018 “40 Most Important Restaurants of the Past 40 Years.”
Maryville’s Recovery for Life Virtual Gala raised nearly $100,000; and we are grateful to the volunteers, sponsors, supporters, and attendees who helped make the evening a success.
