Hilary is an advocate, speaker, coach and facilitator who has transformed personal trials into a platform of empowerment and inspiration. Formerly the nation’s fastest swimmer in her age group, her life took a dramatic turn at age 14 when she faced a 15-year battle with addiction. Her journey toward recovery began at 29 when she committed to rehab, a decision that profoundly changed her life. Since celebrating her 15th year of continuous sobriety in 2022, Hilary has chosen to publicly share her story to inspire and support others dealing with similar challenges. She resides in Arlington, Virginia with her son, Alexander, and dedicates her career to helping others heal and find their voice. Hilary is also the host of The Right Room with Hilary Phelps podcast and founder of The Right Room, a platform committed to empowering women to navigate significant life transitions like divorce, sobriety, and career changes, encouraging them to live authentically and pursue their passions.

On Friday, April 12, 2024, Maryville held its 11th Annual Recovery for Life Gala. Maryville’s Advocacy in Action Award was presented to three honorees for their significant contributions to Maryville and the recovery community: Roland Traynor, Special Events for Camden County; Jerry Warner, President of Maryville’s Board of Trustees; and Brett Wiltsey, Esq., Partner at Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell & Hippel as well as Maryville Leadership Council Founding Member. Congressman Donald Norcross spoke and presented the honorees with proclamations.
More than 200 attendees enjoyed great food, live music, a silent auction, and guest speaker Zac Clark of tv show The Bachelorette fame. Zac is a mental health, wellness, and addiction recovery advocate, motivational speaker, philanthropist, and business executive who founded and serves as CEO of Release Recovery, a full-service substance use disorder and mental health organization. The gala raised $150,000 to fund agency programming.
